Mary Whigham Hargrave

Biography

Working from photographs and life, Mary Whigham Hargrave captures the personality and vitality of the subject while achieving a striking likeness. Her style is realistic and her use of color, impressionistic. Her work has been shown in exhibitions at the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club in New York City and solo exhibitions in the New York Area and Connecticut. Her portraits are in private collections throughout the United States. Her paintings are included in "Best of Pastel I & II", "Best of Oil", and "Portrait Inspirations"(Rockport Publications).

She teaches at the Rye Art Center, and in studio classes. She is a Director of the Pastel Society of America, and the Hudson Valley Art Association, and a member of the American Artists Professional League. She is also a member of the advisory committee of the New York Society of Portrait Artists. Hargrave presents portrait demonstrations on Cable TV and to art groups. Her painting workshops in Europe are popular and include such countries as Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, and in May 2001, Morocco.
