Biography

“The first time I worked with pastels I was shocked.  They were as good as a box of Belgium chocolates.”  - Ilene Gienger-Stanfield

Enthusiasts agree that Gienger-Stanfield’s work is a treat for the eyes as well as the heart.  Her use of soft edges and bold color stirs up a fascinating imagery that profoundly speaks of the innocence and beauty of her subject matter.  From ballet dancers preparing for the big night to schoolboys learning the business of shoe shining, Gienger-Stanfield’s work gets to the heart of everything that is good.

Ilene Gienger-Stanfield was born and raised in Klamath County, Oregon, where she developed a lasting appreciation for the unique light and color of western landscapes.  After receiving her fine art degree from Southern Oregon University, Gienger-Stanfield studied under world-renowned figurative painter Harley Brown.  She credits him with sharing his gift for figure painting and teaching her how to capture the essence of everyday life.

“I am not an elaborate painter. I am more of a journalist who gets right to the point.”

In the past decade, Gienger-Stanfield has had seven solo exhibitions, participated in numerous group exhibitions, and has been accepted into national and international shows, taking a variety of awards.  She teaches pastel workshops throughout the nation.  Her work has been featured in local and international publications, most recently Artist’s Magazine and The Pastel Journal.  She is a signature member of Women Artists of the West, Northwest Pastel Society and Pastel Society of America.  Her original works are available for purchase at Hagen’s Fine Art in Medford, Oregon, 541-245-1374, www.hagensfineart.com
