Barbara J. Fischman

Biography

Barbara Fischman, received her B.A. and M.A. in Creative Arts from New York University and an M.F.A. from the City University of New York with a Certificate for Meritorious Achievement. She also has a Certificate in Appraisal Studies in the Fine and Decorative Arts from New York University, as well as a Certificate from Christie’s Education, for the New York Art Course. She is a Past President of the Pastel Society of America and currently serves as a Governor on the PSA Board of Governors. Ms. Fischman is a certified Fine Art Appraiser and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Appraisers Association of America. She is also the Executive Director of the Salvador Dali Research Center in New York.

Ms. Fischman’s art career started at the Parson’s School of Design where she studied various modes of printmaking. She went on to study oil and watercolor painting techniques at the Art Students League. As a graduate student in studio art at The City University of New York, she focused on the art of pastel for her MFA in studio art. She also attended life drawing classes at The National Academy School of Art. Ms. Fischman has been an exhibitor, among others, in the Salon Du Pastels, Lille France; Europastel, Italy and St. Peterburg, Russia; Art du Pastel exhibitions in Yvtot and Giverny France; Cork Gallery, Avery Fischer Hall, New York, The Hammond Museum, North Salem, New York; The Pen and Brush Club; The Salmagundi Club; The National Arts Club, New York and The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. She currently teaches pastel at Pastel Society of America’s pastel school at the National Arts Club, New York.
