Lori is a Raleigh, North Carolina artist who balances her passion for art with her passion for environmental work.
Recent series, in both oil and pastel, have included Porto, an exciting current series, which experiments with compositions of port wines and the foods that complement them, and Trees, focusing on the wonder of trees and their survival.
Lori shows in two galleries in Raleigh, Local Color Gallery and Visual Art Exchange. She also shows regularly with the Durham Art Guild and the Pastel Society of North Carolina. In addition to selling to corporate clients and individual collectors, Lori is very active in donating artwork for fund raising efforts locally including AAS-C Works of Heart, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Chapel Hill Women’s Center, believing very strongly that every artist should give back to the community.
Impressionism is the art movement that most deeply resonates within Lori, being a point of departure for the work, which is largely representational. In addition to the Impressionists, her influences are the Ashcan School, Degas, Schmid, Sorolla, Sargent, and Hopper.
The currently active plein air painters Scott Christensen, Matt Smith, Ralph Oberg, Albert Handell, and Clyde Aspevig are strong influences on her outdoor painting.
